Role: leader
According to Banque de France and the BIS, France's standalone wholesale CBDC experimentation programme ran from March 2020 and concluded in December 2021 with Project Jura. The work demonstrated cross-border settlement mechanics for euro and Swiss franc wholesale CBDCs, including payment-versus-payment and delivery-versus-payment scenarios. No standalone French wholesale CBDC pilot is currently active, and ongoing euro-area CBDC work is now represented through the ECB-led Digital Euro process rather than a separate French programme.
